Marble puts that sunrise 2.5 hr out of reach.
Maroon Bells dawn works beautifully from Carbondale (35 min). But the sheet then puts you at Twin Lakes for sunset and in a Crested Butte bed — that's ~110 mi / ~2.5 hr in the dark over Cottonwood Pass or via Monarch/Gunnison. Fix: swap the nights — Crested Butte on 30 Sep, Carbondale on 1 Oct. Same two rooms, no night drive, and it puts you closer to both dawns.
Temple of the Sun is a half-day rough 4×4 loop with a Fremont River ford. Hanksville → Great Sand Dunes is ~460 mi / ~8 hr, and sunset at the dunes is 18:32. Fix: pick one. Either a first-light out-and-back to the Temples up Caineville Wash with wheels rolling by 09:00 (dunes at dusk becomes a coin-flip), or skip Cathedral Valley and shoot the dunes properly. The moon is new that night — the dunes under the Milky Way are the better trade.
~235 mi / ~4 hr on US-285 for a 16:17 international departure — car returned and airside by ~13:45 means leaving Monte Vista by 09:00. Fix: drop the shopping day. Take sunrise at the dunes (40 min away) instead, and stop at Kenosha Pass on US-285 for the last aspens of the trip — it's directly on the route.
Your sheet has Milky Way at Forest Canyon Overlook 20:00–22:00 on 25 Sep. Full moon is 26 Sep, so that night the moon is up all night at ~99% and the core is washed out. Use it instead: that much moonlight lights the alpine tundra for moonlit-landscape frames. Your real dark skies are Days 15–18 in Utah (7% → 0%, Bortle 1–2) — save the astro nights for Hanksville and the dunes.
Independence Pass (Oct 1): its winter closure fell Oct 28–Nov 17 every year 2021–25 (earliest Oct 28) — well after your visit, so a seasonal closure is unlikely. The only real exposure is a 1–3 day storm closure (e.g. Oct 11–13, 2023). Fallback: I-70/Leadville. Ophir Pass (Oct 5) is higher-risk — an unmaintained 4×4 road that's first to go with any snow; summit before noon, fallback Hwy 145. Check cotrip.org + San Miguel County each morning.

Buy the America the Beautiful annual pass (~$80, or $250 non-resident annual per your sheet) — covers Rocky Mtn, Grand Teton, Arches, Canyonlands and Great Sand Dunes. Dead Horse Point ($20) is a Utah state park — not covered. Buy and sign it at the first park entrance station you hit; no need to order ahead.
Day 7 (29 Sep) is the only bed not reserved — the night you arrive from Wyoming. Shortlist: Bungalow in Marble (Airbnb), Grand Lodge Getaway, Nordic Inn. Book Crested Butte, not Marble — Day 8 opens at Ohio Pass, 15 min from town.
RMNP needs a "Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road" permit 05:00–18:00 (recreation.gov, $2). Maroon Bells needs a parking reservation — already grabbed for 1 Oct ($2.42); cancel it if you don't go or it's a $12.40 fine. Arches dropped timed entry for 2026.
